KISMET PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL PROFILE

‘Building the Foundations for Success and Happiness’

School Location and Profile

Kismet Park Primary School currently has an enrolment of 510 and is located in the leafy green area of Gum Tree Hills estate in an established part of Sunbury. We border developing communities of Sunbury Fields and the upcoming community of Sherwood Rise. Our projected enrolment for 2022 is 523 and we aim to have 24 classrooms. Our school is led by 1 Principal, 1 Assistant Principal and a Learning Specialist. Our PLC leaders lead curriculum teams in planning and organisation.

Our school’s mission is, “Build the Foundations for Success and Happiness” and we aim to achieve this through providing our students with an engaging learning environment with a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. We offer a broad curriculum that supports and develops student’s emotional, physical, social, cultural and academic needs.

We are a School Wide Positive Behaviour School and we utilize a ‘It’s your choice’ banner in all classrooms as a consistent and visual approach to student wellbeing and management. The ‘It’s your choice’ banner includes our school values of, ‘We are Responsible; We are Respectful; We are Safe and We are Learners’.

We have a strong sense of community and our staff are expected to be involved in extra-curricular activities such as our bi-annual school fete, PTA, School Council and other roles to ensure the day-to-day running of the school. We promote student voice and agency through many opportunities such as Junior School Council and Senior School Council.

Teaching and Learning

We dedicate two hours per week to plan collaboratively with year level PLC teams and are in the developing stages of the PLC Inquiry Model. Our teaching and learning programs follow the Instructional Workshop Model and we aim to embed the HITS in all aspects of the teaching and learning programs.

We use SMART Foundation and SMART Spelling to teach spelling and phonics from Prep-6, and we will have a strong professional development focus on the teaching of Writing and Mathematics in 2022. We have a .8 Learning Specialist who works with classroom teachers to develop teachers with instructional practices and curriculum understanding. We promote peer observations and learning from others as part of ongoing professional development.

Students attend three specialist classes per week which include Japanese, Performing Arts and Physical Education. Visual Art and Library are predominantly taught by classroom teachers as additional specialist classes. Integrated is taught weekly and embedded in Literacy and Numeracy lessons.

We use the ‘Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships’ program to develop students’ social, emotional and positive relationship skills and this is taught explicitly in all classrooms across the school. We employ a school Chaplain who works with students needing wellbeing support three days a week and cater our learning programs to meet the needs of a variety of abilities.
